Southern University Alumni Federation (National Office) IS SEEKING NOMINATIONS FOR SUAF ALUMNI AWARDS

The Southern University Alumni Federation is seeking nominations for its annual Alumni Awards, created to honor alumni who have excelled in their respective careers and made a profound impact on the Southern University System, local communities, and the world.  The Alumni Awards also will recognize Chapters that have typified The Southern University System tradition of excellence and brought credit to the university by their chapter accomplishments, humanitarian service, and community involvement.

Winners will be recognized at the 2018 SUAF National Conference, which will be held July 19 – 22, 2018 in Baton Rouge, LA. This commemorative event will bring together the HBCU community, public and private sectors as well as elected officials to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of Southern University graduates and Friends of Southern University in the following areas: 

  • Education:  Professors, Researchers, Religion, Educators, Education Professionals, and S.T.E.A.M. Professionals
  • Health Care and Medicine:  Health care professionals, Nurses, and Medical Research
  • Business:  Senior Management, Presidents, Vice Presidents, and Entrepreneurs
  • Public Policy: Legislative Leadership of Private and Public Sector, Policymakers, Government Officials, the Military, Council and Board Members, and Jurisdictional Leaders
  • Sports and Entertainment:  Sports’ professional, musicians, and entertainers
  • Media/Communications: Print and Media Professionals and Journalists in Radio, Television, Social Media, and Print Publications
  • Community Involvement: Community programming for citizens and/or youth, and volunteerism
  • Young Alumni: A recent graduate (less than five years) for notable career achievements and/or community service.

Awards Criteria:

Nominees should be individuals whose efforts, work, and records of service have impacted the community at the national, state and/or local levels.  No self-nominations accepted.  Only SUAF members in good standing (life member or financially active annual or subscribing life member) shall nominate individuals for awards.  All Alumni award nominees must meet the criteria listed below.

  1. Have attended one of the Southern University System Campuses for at least one semester:
  2. Be an active and involved member of a local alumni chapter or if no chapter is in their respective location, has contributed towards the growth and development of the institution;
  3. Have obtained high levels of achievement in his/her profession;
  4. Have demonstrated good character and outstanding citizenship on a local, state or national level
  5. Have demonstrated quantifiable evidence of support for the Southern University System and her stakeholders.

NOTE: Areas 3 – 5 should be referenced regarding nominees for the SUAF “Friends of Southern” category of awards.

Deadline:

The Nomination process is available online at sualumni.org and should be submitted by 11:59 p.m. EST Tuesday, May 25, 2018.  The winners will be announced by Friday, June 15, 2018 and recognized at the SUAF National Alumni Conference.
