Dear Fellow Southernites:

The first year of our new administration has been absolutely phenomenal. We took on student recruitment as our primary initiative for the 2014-15 academic year and have achieved fantastic results. We set out by dividing the Federation into six geographic regions around the country and appointed Regional Directors in each of those regions. After making these appointments, the Federation hired Student Recruiters to help the University recruit students in key geographic regions. We hired recruiters in Chicago, Atlanta, and Houston, and have achieved remarkable results in increasing the number of students from around the country who have applied to Southern University. We cannot thank the SU System Foundation and the University enough for allowing us to partner with the campuses to help with this important strategic initiative.

We also had a fabulous legislative session. You, our dedicated Southern University alums and supporters, really stepped up to the plate and lobbied Governor Bobby Jindal and the Louisiana Legislature to convince the State of Louisiana to invest in and re-invest in higher education and Southern University. As a result, not only did the Southern University System not have it’s state budget cut as we feared earlier this year, but it received an increase in appropriations for fiscal year 2015-16.

Similarly, our decision to hire a membership coordinator has yielded great results, as we signed up more than 400 new Alumni Federation members over the past year. Because of the incredible hard work of our Regional Directors and local chapter officers, alumni engagement and activity has increased around the country.

On behalf of the National Officers and Chapter Presidents around the country, I thank you for visiting our website and hope you enjoy all of its features.

Sincerely,

Preston J. Castille, Jr.
