Alumni Center

The development of a Southern University Alumni Center is the most significant project ever undertaken by the Federation and we believe it’s benefits will stand the test of time.

As a first step in the development process, in 2004 the Federation acquired 5 acres of land along the picturesque bluff over looking the Mississippi River adjacent to the historical grave sites of the Clark Family.  Since that time, the Federation has completed an architectural rendering of the Center, a cost analysis, began a fundraising campaign, and recently hired the Bayard Research Group, LLC to coordinate bond and tax credit financing for the Center’s construction.  The 50-thousand square foot facility will house the Office of Alumni Affairs and up to 20,000 square feet of lease space to other University Administrative Personnel.  Other amenities included are:  A remarkable entrance hall; souvenir shop; executive offices; conference rooms; staff offices; fully equipped kitchen; mail/copying room; technology room; employee break room; faculty lounge; hall of honor; memorial courtyard (with personalized bricks, tiles and statuary); ample storage space; closets and rest rooms.  The Center’s 15 thousand square foot convertible ballroom space will serve as a premier location to host Alumni galas, community events, and social functions and a vast array of special activities.  The Center will serve as the University’s “front door”, a gathering place for alumni, family and friends to reminisce about the past; live in the moment and make plans for the future.  This enjoyment and fellowship (Southern Hospitality) will all take place in an environment never before seen on Scotts Bluff.

The Center will also compliment the City’s efforts to revitalize North Baton Rouge, specifically the area surrounding the university campus.  The Federation’s goal is to attract organizations that are seeking first-rate locations to host local, state, national, and international conferences, and seminars and social gatherings

Call to Action

In order to make this dream a reality, the Federation needs the personal and financial support of each and every Alumni.  We are seeking personal contributions, corporate sponsorships, and major gifts and donations.   In fact, gift support for annual, capital and other specific initiatives will serve a major role in subsidizing the annual costs for operating the Center.  Operational cost will include payroll, utilities, new technology, landscaping/ground maintenance, and other administrative services

So why give to the Southern University Alumni Center? While there are many reasons to provide support for the Southern University Alumni Center, the ultimate purpose is to showcase the academic, social, entrepreneurial, political, and scientific contributions Alumni have made to the world.  Your contribution to the Southern University Alumni Center will support construction, daily operations, and a priceless and everlasting contribution to the University and City of Baton Rouge.  Lastly, your contribution will make you a shareholder or property owner in the Southern University Alumni Center
